About This Tool

What is UNICORN?

UNICORN is the control and evaluation software for ÄKTA chromatography systems (manufactured by Cytiva/GE Healthcare). It generates proprietary .zip files containing chromatography run data including UV absorbance, conductivity, pH, pressure, and fraction collection information.

Why Extract to CSV?

Extracting UNICORN files to CSV format enables:

  • Easy import into analysis software (Excel, Python, R, GraphPad Prism)
  • Custom data visualization and statistical analysis
  • Integration with laboratory information management systems (LIMS)
  • Archival in universal, non-proprietary format
  • Batch processing and automation of chromatography data

Supported File Types

  • .zip files: UNICORN v7 archives containing chromatogram data

How It Works

Upload your UNICORN .zip file, and the data extractor will:

  • Extract all chromatograms from the file
  • Parse binary data for each curve (UV, conductivity, pressure, etc.)
  • Extract to clean CSV files with properly labeled columns
  • Organize output by chromatogram number
  • Generate a summary README with extraction details

The resulting ZIP file contains one folder per chromatogram, with individual CSV files for each curve. All CSV files maintain the original data resolution and include all measured parameters from your chromatography run.
